| Loft conversion plans
When considering a loft conversion you will need plans.
These are required by the local authorities for building control approval.
If you need planning permission, similar ones are required.

Party wall act
The party wall act came into force on 1st July 1997; it is an act that gives building owners the right to work on their party walls.
With a loft conversion it is usual to lay the steels on the party wall.
THIS IS ALLOWED.
However, you do have to give 2 months' notice.
Planning permission
When the loft conversion of a property does not come under permitted lawful development, or you live in a conservation area, or a flat/maisonette you may need planning permission.

Building control/regulations
When you are considering a loft conversion it is important to build to a standard approved by the local authority. Not only is it safer to do so but it also makes sound financial sense should you wish to sell your home in the future. The local council surveyor will ensure the correct beams are used, the insulation is adequate and the new loft conversion meets current fire regulations.
